The book is coming! The book is coming!
The release date is June 16.
Here's the origin story. Spoiler alert: it's taken 13 years to birth this book and get it out into the world.
Leashes, Lessons and Love — What Dogs Teach Us About Raiding Our Kids and Ourselves — is my first book and I can’t wait for you to have it in your hands.
Six months after our first dog, Goldie, passed, and we said we couldn’t go through it again… well, you know how that goes. Kessie came into our home, lives, and hearts. And she couldn’t have been more different than Goldie.
So much so, that for the first months I was making comparisons between the two of them. Goldie had been the perfect first pet. So much so, that it was difficult not to compare.
Not that Kessie was difficult or unpleasant. She wasn’t. She was just… different… in looks, personality and quirks.
One morning I thought, “You should never compare your children.” And this is how the concept of the book began.
I wrote an introduction and chapter titles, highlighting with humor the similarities between being a dog parent and a parent to humans. It’s also filled with parenting tips, insights, and scripts.
It was great! And it sat in a computer file for 12 years.
Until a writers’ program presented itself. It felt like the right fit to help me flesh out the book and bring it into the world. And here we are, just days away from releasing it.
A book about kids and dogs. What could be better?
Here's the link. Remember, it goes live June 16.
