Give Time Limits by Fern Weis, Parent + Family Recovery Coach, Bergen County Moms

Still waiting for your kiddo to do what you asked? Sometimes things don't get done until you give a specific frame.

For example, unloading the dishwasher... by 5:30.

Taking out the garbage... before you leave for school.

If you don't, many will take advantage and turn it back on you. "You said to do it, you didn't say when."

Avoid the manipulative back and forth by being clear and specific.

Fern Weis is a certified life coach who learned that caring and good intentions are not enough in parenting. In fact, they are often the problem! Fern supports parents of teens and young adults who are going through difficult situations, including addiction recovery. She helps parents release guilt, end enabling and confidently prepare their children to thrive through life's challenges. Her articles are featured in Thrive Global, Medium, Motherly, The Teen Mentor, and Bergen County Moms.
