Peel, Dermabrasion or Photofacial - What's the Right Choice for You? By Aydin Center

Peel, Dermabrasion or Photofacial - What's the Right Choice for You? By Aydin Center, Bergen County Moms

Everyone wants beautiful, naturally glowing skin, but not many people know how to achieve the skin of their dreams. While over the counter products can help reduce signs of early-aging, some things must be left to the professionals. Aydin Plastic Surgery offers the following skincare procedures to help stop those pesky wrinkles in their tracks.

PEELS

A chemical peel uses a chemical solution to remove the damaged outer layer or layers of your skin to smooth the texture and encourage new skin generation. Chemical peels vary on the peeling agent and the depth of penetration. The chemical peels offered at Aydin Plastic Surgery are classified as light, medium, and deep.

LIGHT Chemical Peel

Perfect for exfoliating just the outermost layer of the epidermis. With this peel you can expect to remove dead and damaged skin cells and create a healthy glow.

  • Good for: Acne, dry skin and fine wrinkling

  • Ingredients: Usually uses naturally derived alphahydroxy acids such as glycolic, lactic and salicylic acid

  • Expectations: Some minor redness and irritation from your first few light peels; as skin becomes healthier, less redness and irritation should be expected

  • Frequency: Can be done on a regular basis to keep skin glowing

MEDIUM Chemical Peel

This peel will penetrate more deeply, past the epidermis into the upper part of the dermis (the middle layer of the skin)

  • Good for: Acne scars, deeper wrinkles and uneven skin pigmentation

  • Ingredients: Trichloroacetic acid

  • Expectations: Will leave your skin red and stinging; will cause some crusting; redness can linger for a period of weeks

  • Frequency: May be repeated every few months

DEEP Chemical Peel

This peel will penetrate down into the lower dermal layer of the skin. Patients can expect to receive a local anesthetic and sedative prior to deep chemical peels to manage discomfort. Deep peels involve home pre-treatment for up to eight weeks to prepare your skin and speed the healing process.

  • Good for: Addressing deeper wrinkles, sun damage, scars, pre-cancerous growths and blotchy areas

  • Ingredients: Phenol acid

  • Expectations: Will leave your skin peeling, crusting, redness and discomfort for several days; swelling will disappear but skin can be red for 3 months

  • Frequency: Usually done once every 10 years

DERMABRASION

Skin revitalization with dermabrasion is a nonsurgical treatment that improves your skin’s appearance quickly and easily. Aydin Plastic Surgery proudly uses DermaSweep technology to shave the skin to a new layer.

Skin Revitalization: DERMASWEEP

This treatment involves the use of a bristle tip system that effectively micro-surfaces the outer layer of the skin.

  • Good for: Hyperpigmentation issues, fine wrinkles and acne scars

Three primary elements to renew skin health:

  1. Exfoliation: Works to eliminate imperfections, even the skin's texture, restore collagen production and promote radiance

  2. Circulation: Provide lymphatic drainage by gently massaging the skin to boost nutrients and increase oxygen levels

  3. Infusion: Use of skincare solutions to provide vitamins and moisture back to the skin after the dermabrasion treatment

  • Expectations: Skin may have a warm, pinkish glow directly after treatment but can be expected to go away 30 minutes after treatment

  • Frequency: Every two weeks to correct a specific problem, but recommended once a month to keep skin glowing

IPL PHOTOFACIALS

An IPL Photofacial is a non-invasive rejuvenation of your skin using the remarkable technology of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). The IPL Photofacial can stimulate collagen and help restore a more youthful look, leaving skin clearer and healthy-looking. The IPL Photofacial is a handheld device that is gently pressed to the patient’s skin while pulses of light are painlessly emitted.

Intense Pulsed Light: IPL PHOTOFACIAL

This treatment is non-invasive and ultimately painless.

  • Good for: Improving signs of sun damage, rosacea and brown spots on the face, hands and body; reducing the appearance of mild acne scars, dark circles around the eyes and fine lines around the eyes and mouth

  • Expectations: No recuperation time - patients can expect to return to work or resume normal activities on the same day of receiving an IPL Photofacial

  • Frequency: Usually 4-6 treatment sessions lasting about 20 minutes each will provide patients with beautiful results
