Humans have told each other stories for thousands of years. Such exchanges have bound us together as a species, deepened our relationships and strengthened our cultures. Humans need connection, laughter, and the sharing of thoughts and ideas to thrive. We need to listen to each other. We need to share our stories. Perhaps now more so than ever before.
With this in mind, Ridgewood residents Rory Kelsch and Kathleen McKitty Harris founded What's Your Story? in 2018. Both writers, performers, and storytellers — Rory is an actress and Kathleen was a stand-up comedian in New York City, and both have been storytellers at events such as LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER, READ650, and THE MOTH — they wanted to foster a sense of community in an increasingly digital, impersonal, and isolating age.
What’s Your Story? curates a roster of both seasoned performers and first-time storytellers to share their funny, moving and empowering stories in front of a casual, supportive audience. What results is an intimate, fun night of storytelling — as well as engaging conversations and camaraderie between storytellers and audience members.
What’s Your Story? has a simple mantra: speak your truth, strengthen community, and engage in the hilarity -- and healing power — of storytelling.
